Ida will be studying Political Science at York University and will be starting in September 2022.

“Many people have great potential to succeed in this world but I have seen firsthand how poverty and lack of resources block that potential from being fulfilled – I have been one of those people. As the oldest daughter of Ghanaian-immigrant parents and as a first-generation Canadian, getting a degree matters to my family and me. I would like to pursue law in the future and specifically become a civil and human rights lawyer as I have a passion and desire to bring justice to people who have been wronged, abused or exploited by those in power. The DFOY scholarship and mentorship has given me hope that I can pursue a university education, focus on school and not stress too much about expenses and next steps.”
